JUNIOR U13’S CRICKET
Saxton v Shadwell
24th April 2009
Shadwell 81-4, Saxton 53-7
Our first match and it was a pretty good start. We lost the toss and we fielded first. Our opening bowlers Ken Atkinson and Josh Heselden found some lively pace which troubled their openers and then Lewis Cook was unlucky not to get a wicket caught and bowled, but it was a no ball. However Lewis did get a caught and bowled later. Joe Ball shaved the stumps with a couple of deliveries and Dominic Graham and Josh Otter were both accurate. Overall though, we gave away 31 runs from wides, which was too many. The best bowling performance came from George Fletcher who bowled three overs, took one wicket and conceded only 6 runs.
There were a few too many dropped catches, so extra catching practice is required on Wednesday! Remember the old saying - ‘catches win matches’. The fielding was otherwise to a high standard and Henry Jefferson got a good run out, Luke Haw made some good stops and Nathan Stewart was very tidy behind the stumps, conceding only 1 bye.
When we came to bat we struggled against a pacy attack and runs were hard to come by. Ken Atkinson looked in good form scoring 12 and Lewis Cook top scored with 19, including three excellent fours.
Top Bowler - George Fletcher
Top Batsman - Lewis Cook
Top Fielder - Nathan Stewart
Beverley Fletcher top scored with drinks and biscuits despite having no running water!
