JUNIOR U13’S CRICKET
Wetherby v Saxton
1st May 2009
Saxton 40-9,
Wetherby 43-1
This looked a tough proposition; up against a Wetherby team with a very strong bowling attack. Our openers Ken Atkinson and Josh Heselden both found runs hard to come by scoring just two apiece before being bowled. Lewis Cook got a nasty delivery to the ribs and showed that short-pitched balls don’t bother him by hooking the next one to the boundary for a four. Our wickets tumbled and twice their star bowler was on a hat trick but good defence from Ollie Morrill and Nathan Stewart kept him out. George Fletcher showed why you need to wear a box! He looked confident and got off the mark with a nice shot to leg. However our innings was over all too quickly with a total of only 40 runs to defend. This didn’t seem to be enough runs.
Wetherby got off to a steady start with their openers taking singles where they could. (We need to move in a little bit in the field to cut out these runs.) Our fielding was good, only one catch went down and long barriers were much in evidence.
Our bowling was more accurate than the previous week and seven bowlers turned their arms. When George Fletcher got one of their openers out L.B.W. it brought in their star bowler, who also looked as if he would be their star batsman. He quickly scored the winning runs and we lost by nine wickets.
