JUNIOR U13’S CRICKET
8th MAY 2009
Saxton v Bilton
Bilton 126-5, Saxton 50-7
We started our bowling with the usual pace attack - Lewis Cook and Josh Heselden, who bowled against two strong openers. After the pace attack, our medium pacers came on – George Fletcher and Joe Ball. They took a wicket apiece and then five other bowlers turned their arms. Ken Atkinson got his best figures so far this season and got a wicket as well! Both Harry Proberts and Dominic Graham looked like good prospects for the future. George Fletcher took his 4th wicket of the season and Josh Heselden ended the bowling well taking another wicket.
This was the best that we had fielded all season despite the poor conditions. Dave Buck’s Wednesday evening coaching was paying off. Jake Barber used his “Beaver Reflexes” to take a great catch and Harry Probert’s effort would have been catch of the season. The boundary fielders were shown the way by Josh Otter with a text book long barrier.
In poor conditions Ken Atkinson and Josh Heselden did well to hit two fours giving us a good start to the innings. After our openers Lewis Cook and Jake “The Beaver” Barber came in. Jake got his season’s best score despite the conditions and Lewis was caught out playing a drive to mid-on. Our wicketkeeper–batsman Nathan Stewart came in next and also got his season’s best. Then the light and rain got worse making it hard for our batsmen to play their shots. On their U13 debuts both Josh Worsfold and Harry Proberts played like experienced cricketers, with some sound defensive shots. Even though we lost the match it was played in the right spirit with their supporters congratulating Saxton on its fair play.
