JUNIOR U13’S CRICKET
South Milford v Saxton
22nd May 2009
South Milford 100-5
Saxton 40-4
We travelled to Milford with only ten players because of half term and other commitments, but our team was still in good spirits. We lost the toss and fielded first. Joe Ball got the first of three wickets in his first over and this was followed by a great run out. Then Milford enjoyed a 59 run partnership, which was only ended when their batsman retired on 30. The bowling was generally good – but we must cut down on the wides, 11 in total. Ollie Morrill picked up his first wicket – clean bowled. Well done!
In the field the ground fielding was first class but the catching, despite all the coaches’ hard work on Wednesday, let us down. It may be a hard ball but if you catch it right it doesn’t hurt I promise! Henry Jefferson had a great debut as wicket keeper (but make sure you wear a box next time!)
The batting was steady all the way through but we never really threatened their total. Harry Proberts batted a long time and got some useful practice in the middle and Jake Barber hit one of the biggest sixes that I have ever seen at this level. Once again we came up short of the opposition’s total. Still, next week we have two chances to notch a win; the cup at Oulton on Thursday and the league on Friday at home against Collingham.
