Saxton vs. St Chads
22nd June 2009
Saxton 81 all out lost to St Chads 100 all out
Sitting as the only undefeated team in the league Saxton came into the game against top of the table Chads full of confidence. A full strength side awaited the visitors and on the back of wins at the weekend in the senior teams, all junior were bustling with confidence.
Having won the toss Cheeky monkey selected to bowl first on a hard pitch, whilst also considering Saxtons chasing of totals success. The innings started well with tight bowling from Monkey and Roids boy (whom received compliments from the umpire on his peck size!) A stunning catch from Hare at mid-wicket brought the 1st wicket off the bowling of Coe. Chads constantly lost wickets throughout the innings with 3 for Fletcher (2 stumpings from Baxter), 1 for Hare, and 3 for Brown, including a run out each for Coe and Brown.
In the end Chads ended 100 a.o after a solid display from all of Saxtons fielders and bowlers. Again extras cost a few with 15 wides and no balls! A decisive factor? Time would tell.
Ball with a sore finger and the ever present rock at the top of the order Hare opened up, disaster in the 1st over when Ball nicked behind and was sent walking for a Duck. Roids boy entered and was soon flexing his muscles hitting 5 fours and a couple of singles, only to be sent walking after a top edge ended his innings on 22. Fletcher was soon in, along with Wragg as Hare was adjudged LBW by the flirtatious umpire. A solid partnership was built by Wragg n Fletch with the strike rotating regularly. Fletch then skied to mid wicket to end a decent stand of around 25.
Coe was next in but quickly departed for a meagre 3, Saxton beginning to wobble at 60-5 after 10 overs Baxter and Wragg again started building a solid platform before Wraggs off stump decided it had had enough and cart wheeled off the pitch. The last 4 wickets then fell for just 1o runs, the 4 culprits being Ginger Matthews, Brown, Akko and his flying blade, and Ed Jeffo. The last 3 wickets were a hat trick for the Chads bowler, bowling the first two and Ed adjudged LBW on the hat trick ball! The bowler had obviously flexed his biceps enough for the umpires fancy.
So Saxton had capitulated to 81 a.o from being 54-2! Much needed improvements required in the batting department, as all but two batsmen gave there wickets away and were not actually got out, Credit to Chads who bowled tight lines and fielded well. Saxton travel to bottom placed Garforth next week, where improvements are expected to be seen!
