Saxton 'A' v Hillam & Monk Fryston 'A'

Match Report by Owen Price
This round of fixtures saw Saxton’s buoyed second team take on Hillam’s seconds at Saxton. Before the game, everyone was in high spirits, only dampened by their recent loss to South Milford via rain. The weather was excellent now but heavy showers were forecasted for later that day.
Kevin won the toss and put Hillam in to bat on what looked a pretty good pitch. Prak opened and consistently beat the bat. Saxton’s junior Jack opened from the other end. Both had close LBW shouts and found the edge inside their first over and they were both turned down by the umpire. A late Gopi was first changed and bowled well, finally Prak got the breakthrough he so deserved and got number three two balls later. In came the next batsman and smashed his first ball for four, and then the rain came, whilst the Saxton players ran to get the covers on, the rain started lashing down. After half an hour, the rain had stopped and we were back underway in a game reduced to 41 overs a side. Dave Buck came on at Prak’s end and got the breakthrough straight away getting the other opener out for 49 trapped leg before wicket. Steph came on and she and Dave quickly rattled through Hillam’s middle and lower order and they were all out for 103 after 35 overs.
Saxton’s openers found it difficult to get going and Steph was dismissed quickly by an LBW. In came Dave Buck, who, as ever, steadied the ship with Dave Walmsley, the runs came at a decent pace until Dave W got out for 10, but now Saxton were in the sixties and Gopi came in and hit 27, only pausing to let Dave get his fifty with a four off the last ball of the innings.
