Saxton 'A' vs Ledsham 'A'
Saturday 8th July 2017, Match Report by Guy Williams.
A sensational double hat-trick by Yorkshire’s Hannah Buck destroyed Ledsham as Saxton’s Seconds continued their assault on the Division Four Championship.
Hannah’s pace and accuracy smashed Ledsham who were bowled out for only 43.Finishing with excellent figures of 6-28 in only eight overs, Hannah’s double hat-trick is believed to be the first in Saxton’s history since the club was founded more than 150 years ago.
Five of her victims were bowled and Hannah’s second hat-trick followed just eight balls later as Ledsham were blown apart.
Her outstanding effort was the perfect preparation for this weekend’s clash between Yorkshire and Somerset and considering Hannah’s fine form, the selectors may be tempted to include her in the starting eleven.
Saxton’s victory by 10 wickets was also set up by aggressive fast bowling by Prak who grabbed three wickets on a flat pitch at Ledsham.
“This is the first hat-trick of my career and then to get another a few balls later is the stuff of dreams. It’s amazing,” Hannah told the media in a crowded press conference in the Ledsham clubhouse.
The small target of 44 was easily chased down by openers Steph Robinson and David Smith, Saxton’s in-form batsman who’s already scored a 100 and 98 this season.
“ As you know, I don’t like to bring politics into club cricket, but Hannah’s success is remarkable considering the brutal Tory cuts sportspersons have suffered and now that Jeremy Corbyn has changed the political climate, sportspeople can relax and deliver performances like Hannah’s,” said Smith.
Meanwhile, the Ledsham Leader (circulation 250 and rising) was shocked that the village team had collapsed so rapidly.
An editorial quoted a Ledsham CC spokesman as saying:
“We’d planned to neutralise Hannah Buck and realised it would be hard to score runs against her, so once we had seen her off, the plan was to score freely against her father David. But it didn’t quite work out that way. It was a shattering experience-one of the worst days in our history.”
